Quicklime
Quicklime and burnt lime are the commonly used names of the chemical compound calcium oxide (CaO). Quicklime is produced when limestone is heated in a lime kiln to a temperature exceeding 825°C, in a process referred to as calcination or lime burning, which causes the release of carbon dioxide (CO2).
At room temperature, quicklime is a white, caustic and alkaline crystalline solid.
